The Sandton Convention Centre is flanked by the Sandton Sun, Intercontinental Sandton Towers and the Garden Court Sandton City hotels. These three hotels alone provide 1 000 guestrooms on the very doorstep of the Sandton Convention Centre. A further 15 hotels lie within a relaxed and comfortable walking distance, and as many again lie within a 15 km radius, providing a full range of modern hotel facilities and accommodation.
Shopping convenience
Sandton Central offers its visitors a unique shopping experience. The Sandton Convention Centre is linked by skywalk to Sandton City Mall and adjacent to Nelson Mandela Square, two of the most prestigious and sophisticated shopping complexes in Africa. The spacious malls are ideal for walking, browsing, sitting over coffee, eating or shopping. They offer over 50 restaurants, ranging from the relaxed and casual to the elegantly formal. More than 200 shops are renowned for local and international fashion, specialist diamond and jewellery stores, and an abundance of African art, crafts and curios.
The ultra modern Michelangelo Towers Mall, situated across the road from the Convention Centre, is a showcase of contemporary designer showrooms and superb restaurants, linked directly to the two Nelson Mandela Square shopping mall levels and with easy access to the Sandton Convention Centre. The Michelangelo Towers Mall has a kaleidoscope of international fashion brands, gourmet restaurants and much more, such as the Legacy Fitness Gym, Renaissance Health Spa and access to the wide range of services that all provide for an enviable inner-city experience. Designer stores include Byblos, Missoni, Roma Jewelers, Veronica Anderson Jewelers, Pigalle Restaurant and Annica’s Deli.
Parking
There are nearly 11 000 parking bays available in the adjacent Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square malls ensuring that parking your car is never a problem. Three hundred parking bays are available directly under the centre. A unique logistics management system for on- and off-loading further limits traffic congestion. The road capacity of the façade street of the building has been increased by introducing right-turning lanes. Entrance into Sandton Convention Centre parking is from Alice Lane between West and 5th Streets.
Airport
The Sandton Convention Centre is a mere 25 minutes by road from O.R.Tambo International Airport, the country's leading air terminal, serving 30 000 travellers daily. Airport-approved operators provide taxi, bus and shuttle services between Sandton and the terminal.
Roads
Sandton is 25 minutes by car or bus from O.R.Tambo International Airport. Airport-approved operators offer taxi, bus and shuttle services to all major centres within a 500 km radius. Hotel courtesy buses transport guests to and from the airport. A wide variety of transport is available in the region, ranging from budget car rental through to luxury transport, such as limousine chauffeur services. The whole region enjoys exemplary road infrastructure and clear signage. Meeting planners may wish to appoint a transport company to provide a dedicated bus shuttle service for delegates. This service could include shuttles between hotels, to cater for delegates that are not staying within walking distance of the Sandton Convention Centre.
